I have lurked here for over a year, gleaning knowledge on tractor buying. I bought a Kubota L3410 HST this week, and have 2.9 hrs. on the meter. It looks like it will be a good unit for my needs.I started out looking at the L3010, New Holland TC33D, and the JD 4300. I eliminated the JD partly because of their production problems, but mainly because of their lack of competitive pricing. I liked the New Holland’s new body style, and my wife liked the color. New Holland has some nice features such as, the sloped hood for better visibility, tilting hood for easy access, and the swivel seat. It feels like a big riding lawn mower when you sit in the seat, and with the hydrostatic transmission, sounds like my JD Lawn tractor -- that distinctive hydraulic motor sound. The New Holland is lighter and has the shortest wheelbase of the three tractors. I really thought I would end up with a New Holland; I own stock in the company, for goodness sake. But, I bought the Kubota, and one size up from what I was originally shopping for, because:1.The dealer didn’t have a L3010 in stock.2.They made me a deal I almost couldn’t refuse on the L3410 in stock.3.I liked the idea of more horse power; the tractor I am replacing is 35HP, gas.4.I was tired of researching tractors, and it was time to buy.5.The Kubota has the look and feel of a real tractor.Price before tax, $19,000 that includes, a Landpride 6ft L35 Straight blade, that the dealer wanted $950 plus $50 shipping. What did I pay for the tractor? Depends how you do the math. I am happy with the deal, and that is what is important. So, thanks to all those posters that shared their knowledge.Brad

Brad, congratulations on your new tractor! I enjoyed the line of reasoning leading to your purchase. Did you get a loader with the tractor besides the blade? Prices must vary across the country some, because a year ago I pretty much saw price parity in my area between the Kubotas, Deeres, and the Boomers when I included loader and backhoe and allowed a little for hp differences. I was comparing JD 4300 (32hp), NH TC33D (33hp), Kubota 3410 (34hp) and JD 4400 (35hp). Then again, I saw a wide price range across dealers within a single brand, and I remember that certain Deere dealers were the highest overall. ....

Yes Jeff, I got the loader too. I think that a lot of dealers have a opening price. They may come down some from there, and a few are willing to wheel and deal. The first price I received was the "fair time" special. I told this dealer that I should be able to buy that tractor (L3010), for X amount of money, based on national information I gathered on the web. After he checked his invoices, he agreed, reducing his original price by $2,100.
